TUTORING

The most important thing is identifying your child’s strengths to recognize how they learn best. Once we do that, we can take a personalized approach to boosting confidence and reaching goals. We can help your child stay organized and motivated, while reducing stress and anxiety.

We are big believers in using research-based teaching methods as well as differentiated instruction to make sure the lesson is personalized to your learner. Additionally, our tutors are well-versed in the standards of achievement for the student’s grade level, which allows our sessions to be child-friendly, with multiple modalities used to keep your child engaged. We also offer tutoring for students with specialized needs, by professionals who are experts in this exact area.

LEARNING SUPPORTS

Autism & ASD

The saying is “If you’ve met one child with autism, you’ve met one child with autism.” Matching the best tutor for a child with autism is crucial for ensuring social and academic growth. Sessions are built around measurable goals and objectives that are assessed by the tutor and members of the Alter Tutoring team.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Students with ADHD tend to struggle with memory, organization, and attention to detail. We can help! Some of the ways we do it are through executive functioning training, organizing class materials for accessible studying and note taking, and close collaboration with the child’s school.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is defined as a difficulty in learning how to read because of a misinterpretation of words, letters or symbols. We remediate using Orton Gillingham - a multi-sensory approach specifically designed for people with dyslexia. Our tutors can work with dyslexic students of all ages.

Dysgraphia

Dysgraphia refers to trouble with writing - more specifically, transcription. Our students benefit from working with an occupational therapist in conjunction with traditional tutoring.

Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia is when a learner struggles with key concepts like bigger vs. smaller and abstract applications. We use tactical, visual, and graphic organizers with concrete examples to help the student connect math to real life.
